Hi everyone!
Thank you to all of you for signing up at the CAS fair and welcome to the Nations Photography Club (2016-2017)! We will be posting monthly newsletters just like this one for approximately the next 7 months. Before going into further details we also want to inform you that this club is not a commitment set in stone. Many of you said that you wouldn’t take part in competitions and/or technical classes - and this is fine. Please be wary however, that if if this is the case, you will still be considered part of the club and will therefore receive frequent emails from us.
As we start the new month of November and the first month that this club is officially commencing, we wanted to let you know when and where the class will take place and also the theme for this month’s competition (we will be taking in up to 5 pictures per person and there will be 1 winner, with 4 runner-ups).
TECHNICAL & ARTISTIC CLASS
(Tuesdays from 15:30 to 16:15, place yet to be decided)
THEME OF THE MONTH:
Autumn
(sub-themes may be discussed in class and all entries should be sent to the following email - nations.photography@gmail.com)
TIPS FOR THIS MONTH'S COMPETITION:
LIGHT: Not all pictures have to be captured in bright sunlight. In fact, in autumn it’s best to take pictures with morning light, evening light or even overcast days. These times of the day can create moody shadows that add character to photos.
COLOR COMBOS: Everyone loves bold autumn colours so try to use these color combos (such as blue, orange, yellow and red).
FOCUS: Usually, in photography, many people want to get everything in focus. For this theme, however, It might look better if you do the opposite and try to place the main subject in focus and the background out of focus. This will allow you to draw your audience’s attention to the subject you want to photograph and leave out the background that may not be relevant to the overall picture.
REFLECTIONS: another interesting effect that captures fall is using water to reflect the autumn colours and trees. To achieve a mirror image it is essential for it not to be a windy day.

Again, thank you very much for signing up and we hope to see you in the class and take a look at your competition entries,
Geraldine, Chiara and Veronica.
