Hi everyone!
Thank you so much for your creative submissions! Just like other months, we really liked the diversity in pictures; you all managed to convey the theme of ‘Sunlight’ even if the sun wasn’t explicit in your pictures. We loved all of your submissions, and you have truly made it difficult to choose, but unfortunately we had to select only 5 of them. That being said, April’s winners are:
Sydney Amira
Nouf Al Mahri
Ethan McNab
Ana Van der Ree
Danielle Blumer
Congratulations to everyone! Keep an eye out for them on our instagram account (cdn.photographyclub), on the screens around the school, and in “Nations Voice” newspaper (link:https://www.nationsvoice.co/). Again, we’d really like to grow our photography community so that our competitors are even more fun, so If any of you know someone who might want to join, give them this email and if they could send us an email with the word ‘join’ we’ll add them to our email listening. This month, the competition will be quite special, as it is the last month of the year. This is your last chance to share your pictures and amaze us with your creativity. In June, we would like to put up an exhibition with all the submissions we’ve received in 2017 - 2018 so that the whole school community can see them. We will keep you posted throughout the month of May and June. But for now, the theme for May is…
THEME OF THE MONTH
People
It’s been a really long time since we’ve suggested a theme related to emotions and people. So far, we’ve had themes that pushed you to talk pictures of nature, architecture, animals, colours, etc. but not of people. So this month, we want to challenge you with the theme People. You can be as creative as you want with this theme. Not only could you take pictures of your family, friends, strangers, but also of facial expressions, clothes, artworks, etc. You can have people alone or with others, show connections or loneliness. As you can see, the only limit in this theme is your imagination!
We’re looking forwards to seeing your pictures!

TIPS:
To get a candid photograph, make sure it looks natural and the person is in action, preferably not looking at the camera, as if they do not know that they are being photographed.
Turn the camera: If you simply turn your camera to portrait instead of landscape, the subject of your photography will probably be better framed - your pictures will be more suited to the human figure as the picture is taller than it is wide. This may be the simplest tip but it sure improves the outcome of the pictures.
Get closer: Don't be scared of getting too close to your subject! Close-ups allow you to display more details and enhance emotions - so don't hesitate to use them!
Blur the background: if you use a wide aperture (such as f1.8), you will be able to blur the background and put more emphasis on the subject you’re photographing.
