Dear, all

Thank you to all of you for signing up at the CAS fair and welcome to the Nations Photography Club (2018-2019)! We will be sending out monthly newsletters just like this one for approximately the next 7 months. Before going into further details we also want to inform you that this club is not a commitment set in stone but to count this club for participation you have to send in pictures for at least 4 months, we will be taking in up to 5 pictures per person and there will be 1 winner, with 4 runner-ups. As we start the new month of November and the first month that this club is officially commencing, we wanted to let you know the theme for this month’s competition.

THEME OF THE MONTH:

The 4 elements

So this month's theme is going to be the 4 elements. It's broad so its open for interpretation. What you first think of when you hear this theme? We're particularly interested in how the elements interact to create our physical environment in beautiful ways. What happens when you combine ice and fire? Have fun with this and try to think outside of the box/picture.

  1. Focus. When you are taking pictures of elements like steam and rock their focuses are different so make sure that the focus stays on the solid subject and grounds the picture. Though of course, there are exceptions to this that can work extremely well.

  2. Try to include two opposite elements to create a more interesting dynamic in the picture.

  3. The texture is super important in this challenge, look for different or even unsettling ones. Making the image black and white can allow the texture to stand out. Examples:
