Hello everyone!
We hope everyone had a lovely Spring Break! Thank you everyone for your creative and unique submissions! We really liked the diversity in pictures; even though the theme appears straightforward, your interpretations were original. Each one of you highlighted different things from the poem, some focusing more on the colours while others on the message conveyed. So as usually our winners are:
Virginia Pontoriero: "I really wanted to emphasize the feeling of a dreamy peace and how this is found in nature"
Danielle Blumer: "For the first image, I wanted it to represent two things. 'A dreamy peace' and 'deep silence'. I edited it black and white because the monochrome colors made it seem more peaceful and spooky at the same time. In the second image, I used a cool camera technique by accident but I think it represents the phrase 'a dreamy peace on either hand' very well because it looks blurred and distorted giving u the sense of dreamy"
Anurag Sawarkar: "This photo refers to the last paragraph in the poem"
Congratulations to everyone! As promised, there will be a prize for the winner Virginia although we will contact her separately.Keep an eye out for them on our Instagram account (cdn.photographyclub), on the screens around the school, and in “Nations Voice” newspaper (link: https://www.nationsvoice.co/). Again, we’d really like to grow our photography community so that our competitors are even more fun, so If any of you know someone who might want to join, give them our email (ecolint.photography@gmail.com) and if they could send us an email with the word ‘join’ we’ll add them to our email listening.
Moving on the theme for this month is...
THEME OF THE MONTH:
Sunlight
It’s been a really long winter here in Geneva and hasn’t had the best light for taking pictures, but spring has finally sprung so we are hoping for some good weather this month. We want to challenge you with the theme Sunlight. This sounds simple enough but don’t be fooled, taking pictures with bright sunlight can be difficult. Check out the tips and examples down below!
We’re looking forwards to seeing your pictures!

TIPS:
This month, it’s a great idea to experiment with the contrast of your pictures. If you want to have the focus of your picture on the sun, you could make your foreground and background quite dark to accentuate the brightness of the sky (see the images on the examples for inspiration). To do this, you can bring up the shutter speed on your camera or decrease the ISO (you can usually do this on your camera settings or even on your phones if you go on “pro” mode).
It’s also a great time to experiment with what’s called the “lense flare”. Although some people might think that it ruins their picture, it actually gives it a nice and realistic touch. To do this, you can try to include part of the sun in your picture near the frame. However, you have to be very careful about this, as your image might easily become overexposed. Again, we recommend you try out different settings to see the result.
White balance is always something to remember when taking pictures. It can create interesting effects that will make your pictures stand out. It also balances out the light and dark in your pictures.
