Hello everyone!

Welcome back! We're very sorry that there hasn't been a February competition... The team was extremely busy (with mock exams, IAs and Personal Projects), but we're back! Before telling you all about March's competition, we want to thank you all for your creative and unique submissions for January's competition! We really liked the diversity in pictures; even though the theme appeared straightforward, your interpretations were super original. Although everyone's pictures were fabulous, we had to pick our winners:

1. Anurag Amol SAWARKAR:

2. Ethan MCNAB:

3. Danielle BLUMER

4. Jialong KANG

Congratulations! Keep an eye on our Instagram account (cdn.photographyclub), on the screens around the school, and in "Nations Voice" newspaper (link: https://www.nationsvoice.co/). We'd really like to grow our Photography Community so that our competitions are even more fun, so if any of you know someone who might want to join, give them our email (ecolint.photography@gmail.com) and if they can send us an email with the word "join", we'll add them to our email listing.

To make up for our bad time management, we've decided that this month's competition's winner/s will get a PRIZE! It will of course be a photography-related prize (so it probably won't be - just - a cupcake), but the prize will remain secret for the time being... For now, we just want to assure you that it will be a GREAT prize, you'll just have to wait until the end of the competition (March 31st).

That being said, this month's competition is a bit harder than previous ones. It will hopefully challenge you to experiment with your camera settings and certainly improve your editing skills. This month, you can be as creative as you want. You can take black/white and blurry pictures, experiment with different white balances, submit a collage, or even a series of pictures that you believe tell a story or are related. The only conditions is that they MUST be related to the theme. With all that being said, this month's theme is...

MARCH'S THEME:

Poetry - "La Fuite de la Lune" by Oscar Wilde

To outer senses there is peace,

A dreamy peace on either hand,

Deep silence in the shadowy land,

Deep silence where the shadows cease.

Save for a cry that echoes shrill

From some lone bird disconsolate;

A corncrake calling to its mate;

The answer from the misty hill.

And suddenly the moon withdraws

Her sickle from the lightning skies,

And to her sombre cavern flies,

Wrapped in a veil of yellow gauze.

For March's competition, we would like you to represent the poem above in a picture (remember you can submit up to 5). This could be a representation of a word, phrase, stanza, a feeling, or the message that you get from the poem. As well as that, we'd like an explanation of 1 sentence about which part of the poem you were trying to represent. We know that this sounds challenging, so if anyone is confused don't hesitate to email us or come up to us in the corridor. Tips and examples are below, so don't hesitate to check them out, they might help you ;)

We wish you the best of luck, we are really looking forwards to checking out your competition entries!

TIPS:

  1. Editing- for this month we are going to allow heavy editing so you can allow your audience to focus on certain elements of the photograph. For example in the examples below, we have edited the picture so that it is black white and yellow drawing an emphasis on the colour yellow.

  2. Don't be afraid to play around with your white balances to give your pictures a warm/cold look. You can find these on your camera settings or in your phones settings (if you chose the option "Manual")

  3. If you want to make your photos blurry, then just set the focus on manual and try different degrees of blurriness.
